We expect the co-operation of all students by leaving their workspaces clean and tidy commencing packing/tidying up no later than 10 minutes before the class finish time stated and to leave by class finish time. Please replace easels, chairs and tables for the next class and wipe your workspace with a hand towel or similar to remove any paint/residue.

For Parents & Caretakers of Children Attending Classes

TO ENSURE YOUR CHILD’S SAFETY

You must advise us of any medical conditions and/or special learning needs prior to the first class (09 478 2237 or info@mairangiarts.co.nz). This will allow the tutor to provide the best learning environment for your child. All such information will remain confidential with staff and tutor. Enrolments for children with special learning needs will be assessed on a case by case basis and will require an adult to attend class as support for the child.

Sign In/Out Procedure

Students under the age of fourteen (14) must arrive at the stated times for their class, accompanied by a caregiver who is required to sign them in with a signature. Caregivers must collect students from the studios and sign them out after each class. Students will not be permitted to leave the studio without a caregiver present. You must inform the tutor anytime someone other than the registered caregivers will be collecting the child. The centre will not be held responsible for the safety of children who arrive early at class and are left unattended by caregivers.

Uncollected Students

If no-one has arrived to collect a child at the end of class, the tutor will attempt to contact parents/caregivers and the alternative contact person using the emergency details supplied at time of enrolment.

30 minutes after the end of class, if no-one has arrived to collect the child and the tutor has been unable to contact anyone after multiple attempts, they are obligated to  report the situation to police.

Mairangi Arts Centre reserves the right to exclude from the programme children who are repeatedly collected late.

Disruptive Behaviour

Management reserve the right to exclude from the programme any student who is disruptive, does not adhere to the programme rules or poses a significant risk to the safety of themselves or others. The tutor reserves the right to contact and request caregivers to collect students displaying disruptive behaviour during class. Mairangi Arts Centre will strive to be fair and consistent.

Accidents and Emergencies

Parents will be contacted immediately, and staff will perform appropriate first aid and if necessary call an ambulance. Any urgent medical attention will be at the parents’ cost. Children will not be transported by private vehicles unless there is a serious emergency e.g. the need to evacuate due to tsunami, earthquake.

If you have any comments or concerns about the programme, please speak to the tutor in the first instance.

"Life drawing is the essence of art. The considered representation of the human form – and with it, everything it means to be human.” - Steve Bolton

Good drawings tell good stories - about people. About their moods, movements, emotions and feelings. This Speedpaint video is our new MAC tutor Steven Bolton in Action.

In Steve Bolton’s life drawing class, you’ll be drawing people in all their wonderful complexity. Capturing their essence in a series of long and short poses, learning about light, shadow, depth of field and perspective, and putting it all together in ways that bring your drawings to life.

Steve Bolton is an internationally published cartoonist, artist and author from the North Shore. He works in a wide variety of styles and media but always comes back to drawing as the foundation of all good work. Working professionally as a cartoonist for many years and drawing thousands of people, Steve has had the time to develop and expand his work with a particular emphasis on people, movement and the human form. Steve’s life drawing classes are fun, inclusive and highly informative and open to all.

Discover something new with Steve in our Life Drawing and Gelli Plate Printing short courses! These fun, hands-on sessions are a great way to explore different mediums and build your creative confidence.
