Mairangi Arts Centre is calling for entries from artists working in all media for the prestigious Hibiscus & Bays Art Awards.
This annual awards exhibition, sponsored & proudly supported by Auckland Councilβs Hibiscus & Bays Local Board, celebrates artistic and creative
practices in New Zealand.
Exhibitors will be selected by a panel of respected arts
professionals.Their work will be on display in the 10th Hibiscus &
Bays Arts Awards from 24 February – 24 March 2024.

Prizes:
- 3 x Outstanding Artists Awards each receive $1000 monetary prize plus the opportunity to exhibit at Mairangi Arts Centre together in 2025.
- 1 x MΔori Art Award: $500 cash prize sponsored by Te Herenga Waka o Orewa plus the opportunity to exhibit at Mairangi Arts Centre with the finalists in 2025. This inclusive award is open to any artist in any medium who reflects, through their artwork, a sense of place, narrative and belonging to Aotearoa/Tamaki Makaurau.

- 1 x Three Dimensional Merit Award: $200 CCG voucher

This past Saturday, we connected to MΔori tradition through Raranga weaving with Ahi Nyx. Ahi offered a safe space to talk about rongoΔ harakeke, the healing powers of harakeke, and caring for our natural environment. Participants learnt weaving techniques to make their own pΔraerae, MΔori sandals. NgΔ mihi nui Ahi for your wonderful mahi!

Sneak π into the Pop Up! Cash & Carry Art exhibition opening tomorrow at 12PM. There are currently 40 participating artists with over 100 artworks on sale. 100% of artwork sales goes to artists, so be sure to check out their reasonable prices!

Students in Wednesday Brush & Beyond with tutor Xinli Deng created these stunning masterpieces for the end of term 1 π This was Xinliβs first class at MAC and we look forward to Term 2 as he continues to inspire young minds through his independent creative art classes for children. With a curriculum that covers sketching, acrylic painting, crafting and mixed media, Xinli aims to not only teach techniques but also guide each student in developing their own artistic language, unique style, and creative themes. This class is a bilingual class as Xinli speaks both Chinese & English. Online booking for Term 2 can be done through our profile link π¨
