I have worked in different media – oil, pastel and watercolour-and on paintings both large and small. The 3D aspect of the work is always important to me as is the use of colour and tone and the way, through colour and tone, that the eye is led around the painting to one focal point.
Drawing is an essential part of recording information and also exploring different ideas to use and establish a tonal pattern for a painting.
Colour in a painting can be as simple as two colours, one warm and one cool, or it can use many more colours and colour relationships. It can be based on the actual colour of the subject or on an entirely different set of colours. The colours used can also create a particular mood for the painting.
As for subject matter I have used a wide range of topics. I enjoy painting people and their activities, and I have painted portraits. Mostly I find subject matter around my own environment and in areas where I travel.
