As a Painter and Art Educator, Caitlyn enjoys the rewards of teaching. Caitlyn recently graduated with a Master of Visual Arts from Auckland University of Technology (2021). She has had 6 years’ experience delivering children’s art classes and continues to paint at her home studio in Kumeu, Tāmaki Makaurau.
Caitlyn’s painting practice honours the visual properties of paint – texture, colour, opacity, translucency, and viscosity. She works in an intuitive way, pushing and testing her relationship with painting whilst spending time to allow for qualities to emerge, take hold, and reshape any mulling ideas into a new light. During her making the body and the mind work together in an intuitive and responsive way, creating a community of movements. This allows for complete trust in the process, navigating painting through what resonates. Often this feeling is fully gestural, a natural movement, and other times it is more intentional, linking to traditional visual constructs in painting such as figure, focus, foreground, and background.
