Mairangi Arts Centre,
An unique basket where knowledge of arts and culture are pursued.
Strands connect and bind all our people, just as
strands connect and bind art and culture to the health
and wellbeing of our community.

Te Herenga Waka o Orewa gifted this Hakatauāki / collaborative Māori proverb representing our collective approach towards working with other partnering organisations, schools and community.

Mairangi Bay Walking Trail Map

Community Youth Mural With Emma Jane

Artist Emma Jane Ormsby has worked with our local youth to create a mural within our Mairangi Arts Garden. This collaborative mural is a vivid portrayal of community harmony, conceptualized and brought to life by the youth of the Mairangi Bay area. This artwork symbolizes the weaving together of diverse people and ideas, akin to the intertwined strands in raranga (Māori weaving). The use of cut layers in the design is a nod to the harakeke (flax) leaves used in these practices, with patterns like the poutama and kaokao representing the journey towards knowledge and the strength found in unity.

Artist Emma Jane Ormsby grew up locally on the North Shore of Auckland and is of Ngāti Maniapoto and Ngāti Porou descent.

This mural, crafted by the hands of young artists, stands as a testament to their vision of a connected community, drawing strength from its diversity and a shared respect for Te Ao Marama (the natural world) and Te Ao Māori (the Māori world).

This community art project was made possible through the partnership with Bays in Action Think Tank Network and proudly supported by Hibiscus And Bays Local Board and Resene.

Matariki Exhibition

Each year, we gather and collaborate with local schools and community organisations to create kites and displays to celebrate Matariki. We make the most of this season by gathering with our partnering organisations and making new connections with those that are interested to participate.

Wairau Valley Special School Transition Centre

We appreciate the support and involvement of the students and teachers of Wairau Valley Special School Transition Centre who visit us weekly through the school term.

They create unique one off friendship bracelets at our studio that are on display and can be purchased at our Gallery Store. All proceeds from the sales of these bracelets go back to this initiative which allows them to expand their amazing bead collection!
